Silvana, the owner of the sobe we stayed at in Dubrovnik, drops us off at the port for us to catch a ferry to Hvar. I was quite surprised that all three of us (including our luggage) fit into her small white Peugeot. Driving with Silvana was an adventure. Not only did she drive fast, she didn't allow us to put on our seatbelts. I think she believes that a seatbelt is to protect them from accidents where she is at fault. She doesn't seem to think it could possibly be the fault of "the other guy." When I tried to put my seatbelt on, Silvana stopped me and said "No seatbelt. It's ok, I know all of the policemen."

It was one of those many things that differentiates American culture from Balkan culture.
