Diocletian's Palace is probably the best sight in Split. With it's well-preserved romanesque and gothic-rennaissance sculptures and architecture, it is no wonder why UNESCO added this to its preservation list in 1979. But don't expect to have the same sense of marvel here as you would in the city of Dubrovnik. Comparing this palace to Dubrovnik is like comparing a cookie-cut Barnes & Noble Bookstore with a quaint little shop of unique old books and maps. Or maybe it's just me.
