We walked down old streets where sound was absent except for the scuffling of our shoes on the well-worn cobblestones. We scratched our heads when we found the information center closed and were even more confused when we were told that the next bus from Stari Grad to the town of Hvar wasn't until 10pm, some 10 hours away! At the only travel agency we could find in the town, we asked about accomidation. The helpful girl called five hotels in Stari Grad, all of whom told her that they were closed for remodelling, "to prepare for the approaching summer season." We couldn't stay in this small town even if we wanted to!

So with no knowledge about the town, no accomidation in the town, and no transportation out of the town, there was only one thing to do: Explore! Ania, Mark and I walked down almost every street, passing cats resting in window sills, children playing on the steps of an old church, and old women sitting outside of cafes. After only a few hours, we figured we saw everything of significance and headed for a pub to hang out for the remainder of our stay.
