The Borik Campground in Zadar. This photo was taken 15 hours after the last photo. I had a lot of difficulties getting from Split to this campsite, mainly because I wasn't outgoing enough to talk to people and ask for directions. In the bus, I felt people looking at me with a hint of fear. But who wouldn't? I'm 6'4, very big, and haven't shaved in 2 weeks! So it worked a bit backwards: I wasn't talking to them because they looked fearful of me. That, and I had forgotten how to ask "Excuse me, do you speak English?" in Croat. The downside of traveling with other people is you get used to not talking to the locals. It took a little time for me to get back into "solo mode."

This campsite is not designed for tent campers. I wandered the large area without spotting a single tent among the dozens of recreational vehicles. Not only was it a little more expensive than I had thought (74 Kuna a night!), there was no shrubbery to block the cold evening breeze coming off the nearby beach. The ground was very tough and pocked with small natural craters, making it tough to find a flat spot to sleep on. While setting up my tent, I told myself that if could survive camping in Jaz, I could survive this.
