Poienari, Romania:

Among my short list of "Things To Do In Europe" was to visit the actual castle of Dracula. While in Romania, I studied maps and books and asked Romanian friends everything they could tell me about the historic Prince of Darkness. I soon learned that the man was not the noble monarch of All That Is Dark, but the Prince of Wallachia in the 15th century and is a respected hero by most Romanians. They were happy to tell me the actual story of the legendary man.

Early in the morning of November 14th, I climbed the 1,425 stairs(!) to the ruins of Vlad Tepes' castle. This shot is one of my favorites from my trip.
