I got away from the loud performance in the plaza and expored the quiet neighborhoods. The streets north of the city and off of the main arteries of tourist traffic are very peaceful.
To paraphrase writer Julian Green, "The silence around me was like a dwelling in which the past had sought refuge." You can lose yourself in a maze of narrow streets between adobe-brick buildings "where your feet might stumble against some of the oldest stones in Cuzco."
