The Adventure Starts Now! August 11th, 2006
I am happy to announce that my next international trip will be to Nicaragua! I bought my airline tickets today and I'm very excited to share with you that I will be celebrating my 31st birthday trekking through the stunning country known for its lakes and volcanoes. Now, I imagine that many of you're thinking: "Nicaragua? You mean the country that faced a violent insurgency by the Contras, significant elements of which were mercenary armies organized, trained and funded illegally by the United States?" Yes, that's the one! But that was way back in the 80s and you'd be surprised to know that Nicaragua is now one of the safest countries in Central America and tourists - even American ones - are welcomed with open arms (the one's connected to their shoulders, not the ones that Oliver North provided).
Before I depart on November 30th, this is the place that you'll find news on how my planning & journey are progressing. For those who have followed my trips in the past, you know that I'm going to try to keep you up-to-date on as much as possible, sharing my packing list, rough itinerary, gear tests, and random facts about places I plan on visiting.
