P o m p e i i :

  E x p e r i e n c e s

Since 1995, I have been teaching camp kids archaeology at summer camp. The subject of my class revolves around the history of the tragic city of Pompeii and how it was buried by ash when Mt Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. So it was great to finally visit the ruins that I talked about for so many years.

Unfortunately, I expected something better.

I am still surprised to admit this, but it's true. I think it boils down to the fact that I was fueled on my trip by the desire to see the unknown. To experience something new. I simply knew too much about Pompeii to get any of this from my visit.

But I cannot deny the significance that Pompeii has on my life. I would be denying my fate if I didn't go at least once in my life.
