I was lead to Sorrento by nice Australians I met in Paris at the beginning of my journey. They said that there was a great campsite in the area that was cheap, had a private beach, and wasn't very far away from Naples.

After a nervous hike on a curvy road that had no sidewalk that was used mainly for large busses, I discovered that the campsite had closed up shop until next summer!

I opted for Plan B: to stay at a campsite down the road. It was a nice place, but way too expensive for my budget. Although it had it's moments, Sorrento was mainly filled with old people on their nth anniversaries and young people on their honeymoons. The area is romantic, so their presence is just, but it wasn't too impressive for me (this would be my 13th country on my journey).

If you go there as a backpacker, make sure to go farther down the Sorrento Pennensula to Capo De Sorrento (see pictures), a nice rocky beach on the ruins of an old Roman lookout post.
